
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch-singer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her recording of "Cry Me a River" the track she introduced to her debut album. In addition to the recording, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 , with roles in movies. This included roles as the lead female character in numerous westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. She released her final studio album in the year 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
