Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix (Arizona) as the daughter of Juanita Cordova and Colby Carter. Her father is of English and has Scots Irish heritage as is her mother, who is Mexican and Spanish. She is the sibling of Vincent and a brother and Pamela and Pamela, who are sisters. Carter aged 5 made her television debut on Lew King's Talent Show. Carter was part of a group called Just Us during high school. The group played a marimba and a conga drum. They also performed on an acoustic and the stand-up bass that was played by another band member. At age 15 Lynda began singing at the local pizza joint in order to earn extra cash. When she was 16 years old, Lynda joined two of her cousins to form another band, The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer of The band. The group was initially launched at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Carter had to enter the kitchen as she was older than 21. After being awarded "Most talented" in the school, Carter decided to quit school in pursuit of the career of a musician. In 1970, Carter auditioned and then was on the road with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first concert together was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco in 1970, which was so brand-new that it didn't have a sidewalk entrance. The band played mostly to hotel staff and hotel guests who left their vehicles in the underground garage. The Garfin Gathering played shows in numerous Nevada casino lounges, including those situated between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter decided to leave the Garfin Gathering in 1972 to pursue acting, and then returned to Arizona.
